Well, pearly ones, it’s getting closer. I don’t think I can officially start a countdown until the end of this month, but the release of my debut young adult novel Beautiful Mess is looming quicker and quicker and I am so excited and nervous. HOLY MOLY. It feels like such a weird moment in time knowing that a thing that I wrote will soon be in the ether for people to read. With theatre you’re constantly getting feedback and talking about the work with people, but this has been such a relatively solo endeavor for such a long time that I can’t quite articulate how I feel.
Here’s what it’s about:
Since Ava lost Kelly, things haven’t been going so well. Even before she gets thrown out of school for shouting at the principal, there’s the simmering rage and all the weird destructive choices. The only thing going right for Ava is her job at Magic Kebab.
Which is where she meets Gideon. Skinny, shy, anxious Gideon. A mad poet and collector of vinyl records with an aversion to social media.
He lives in his head. She lives in her grief. The only people who can help them move on with their lives are each other.
This week Text Publishing asked blogger Danielle to do a spiffy cover reveal post which included a squiz at the fancy gold foiled cover and chapter sample. Read the blog here.
Look at the cover…isn’t it the prettiest?
MEET AVA AND GIDEON AND READ THE CHAPTER SAMPLE HERE.
I’ve quite literally just finished the second round of edits, which means I think there is one final proof read to do before I can no longer fiddle and it’ll be sent to the printers.
Until then, i’ll be nervously pooing and excitedly dancing.
Love and Sparkles.
